Cycle of the Hero:
This cycle is all about Luke and how he managed to end his adventure with a victory. He started out with his call to adventure from Obi Wan. Obi Wan flat out asks Luke to come fight with him. Then Luke meets C3PO and R2D2. They all gang forces. Those two are considered Luke's helpers. One major challenge that Luke had to overcome in the story was the death of his aunt & uncle. The triumph of the story would be when the fighting between good and evil starts to rise. Luke's flight would be when Luke starts to fight with Darth Vader one on one. The threshold struggle is when the Emperor gets involved and tries to kill Luke. Knowing Darth Vader is Luke's father, Darth stood up for Luke and killed the Emperor. That would be the ultimate good vs. bad showdown. The final elixir would be when Darth Vader dies and Luke takes off his mask. This is a really important time because Darth forgets that he is a villan and finally takes his role as a father. He wanted to be able to see Luke in the eyes of a dad and not as his enemy. Now we are waiting for the next call to adventure...
Literacy Archetypes:
Hero: Luke. He represents the values in the society and he is the one who finally conquers evil.
Antihero: Han Solo. He doesn't believe in the force and he does the right thing for the wrong reasons.
Wise Fool: Obi Wan. People don't believe him when he tells of the force. He ends up being very intellegent and right about the force existing.
The Devil Figure: Emperor. He is the evil force that tries to kill Luke. The Emperor wants a complete end to the good side.
The Outcast: C3PO. He talks a lot, but never about anything to meaningful until turmoil begins with the evil side. He is pretty lonely until he meets R2D2.
The Double: Darth Vader. He represents good and evil. You see his true good side in the end when he wants to forget about his villan side and be Luke's father before he dies.
The Scapegoat: R2D2. He doesn't seem very valuable but Darth Vader knows what he knows. R2D2 knows past secrets of Darth's that makes him very handy to have.
The Temptress: I don't really know about this one. It talks about a woman, but I think the force fits this much better than any woman in the story. The force can bring distruction to those who it encounters if you aren't for the force. It represents the unknown.
The Good Mother: Princess Laia. She seems nurturing toward those on her side and she provides support for the ones she loves.

yayy!!
ReplyDeleteYou wrote a very good test, Abby, which shows you have a clear understanding of the concepts we are studying. One thing you should address, however, is one part of the Cycle of the Hero that you did not mention -- the crossing of the threshold into the adventure. For Luke, it is when he actually walks into the bar -- going from the known to the unknown.
ReplyDeleteYou have earned an A for the Star Wars test
Two things about your bragggart post --
ReplyDelete#1: Beowulf pulled Grendel's arm off by himself -- his men were not helping him
#2: Grendel's mother is evil and would not call on God to help her -- if anything, her "lord" would be satan.
