Characteristics of a Tragic Man:
Darth Vader is a tragic man because...
1. He as a belief in his own freedoms: He made the choice of his dilemma with either to kill Luke or not. He had enough courage to scrafice his terms with the bad side to save his son.
2. Supreme Pride: Darth Vader has a fatal flaw. He has a superiority to man. He has much more power than the normal person does. He has power, but doesn't use it for the right reasons.
3. Capacity for Suffering: Darth Vader is doing the right thing for fighting his side. The problem is, his son is on the other side fighting against him. Darth Vader feels guilty for going against his own family members. He has no fear of death when he tells Luke to remove his mask. When you remove his mask, he will die. That drives him to his death.
4. Sense of Commitment: When the forces of the conflict are set in motion, Darth Vader sticks with his side. He could stop all controversy with just a change of sides, but he never does. Darth Vader is diffiently stubborn as he keeps going against his family.
5. Vigorous Protest: The dark side is what put Darth Vader's life at risk. If he were on the good side, nobody would want to kill him. There would be no reason to want to kill a good man.
6. Transfiguration: As Darth Vader is laying there dying, he knows it is the right time to forget about his villian side. He asks Luke to remove his mask so he can be a father figure. During his death he went out with a bang. He left a memory of glory.
7. Impact: Who didn't feel the pain when Darth Vader died? He was a respectable villian how he never listened to his dark courage to kill Luke. His death brought out his great courage. You get a deeper understanding of his true self.
Luke's Hero Traits:
Dedicated: Luke never once doubts the power of the Jedi and the force. He is always fighting for them and keeps going until he accomplishes his goal. When Luke was flying the space crafts trying to get to the Death Star, he was one of the few planes that was not blown up. He could have easily given up but he never does. He has faith in everything and everyone.
Resisted Temptation: This kind of relates with dedication. When Luke was offered the power to join the dark side with the Emperor and Darth Vader, he never does. He is part of the Jedi and is commited to staying with them.
Loyal: Luke is never mean to any of the Jedi's. He sticks with his team and never backs out. He cares for everyone that has disrespected him. He cared for his father even though his father was his enemy.
